Google is going to completely shut the Sinhala language from its advertising ecosystem, with its latest decision to remove ‘unsupported languages’ from their AdSense, AdMob, and Ad Manager monetization platforms.
For many years, advertisers in Sri Lanka were requesting the local Google Ads reps to allow scheduling vernacular ads on their Google Display Network and on Youtube. The canned response always had been “Sinhala is not a supported language, so we cannot approve any Sinhala ad creatives on GDN or YouTube”.
Today I got the news that they are even going to stop showing ads on any website which is primarily published in the Sinhala language (as Sinhala is an unsupported language for the Google Ads system).
According to this new policy change, an advertiser in Sri Lanka is not allowed to run any Sinhala language ads on Google Display Network and YouTube and/or run even an English ad on a website published in Sinhala.
